Kevin Gilmour, a Freelance Web Designer With a Business Background
I build bespoke WordPress websites for businesses across the UK, but for me, it’s about more than just making a website look good. I spent over twenty years working in retail and the motor trade, so I understand what matters most to a business owner: getting enquiries, winning customers, and bringing in more work.

From the Parts Counter to WordPress
Before web design, I spent over twenty years in retail and the motor trade. I spent most of that time in the motor trade, first as a parts advisor and later as a parts manager. I worked in main dealer groups and independent garages throughout the UK. I know what it is to chase margins, manage stock, and keep customers coming back.
Websites came into it early. At Monarch Garage in Glasgow, a Land Rover and Jaguar specialist, I ran the main website and built a separate WooCommerce shop. It carried over 5,000 product lines on its own domain. Later, over four years at Clydesdale Classic Cars, I built and ran the company website alongside my day job. I also designed and built the website for its sister company, Caledonia Coachworks in Edinburgh. WordPress became the tool I reached for, and I have built with it since 2008.

Why I Started Gilmour Web Design
Along the way, I saw too many good businesses let down by websites that did not do them justice.
Others had paid an agency a small fortune, only to be left to fend for themselves the moment the site went live.
I started Gilmour Web Design to offer the opposite: proper work, straight answers, and one person who stays with you long after launch.
That background changed how I build. I think about what your website needs to do for the business, not just how it looks on screen.
From a simple one-page site to a full online shop, I have done it all.
How I Work With You
One Person, From Start to Finish
When you work with me, you work with me throughout. There are no junior designers, no subcontractors, and no account managers passing messages back and forth.
You have direct access to the person doing the work. That means quicker answers, fewer crossed wires, and a website that reflects what you actually asked for.
Honest Advice, Even When It Costs Me Work
If a feature will not earn its keep, I will say so. If your current site needs a few targeted fixes rather than a full redesign, I will tell you that too. I will say so even though the rebuild would pay me more.
I would rather give you the right advice and build a long working relationship than oversell a project and leave you disappointed.
Plain English, Every Step
I keep things jargon-free, from the first conversation through to launch day and beyond. If a technical term is unavoidable, I explain it in plain English.
You will always know what is happening, why, and what comes next.

Who I Work With, and Where
I work with businesses right across the UK. That runs from sole traders getting online for the first time to established firms replacing a website that has aged badly. Many of my clients are trades, and a growing share need an online shop.
Alongside WordPress web design, I offer website redesigns, SEO, copywriting, hosting and domains and ongoing WordPress support.
Most of the work happens by phone, email and video call, so where you are makes no difference to the result. I am based in Carluke, South Lanarkshire, and cover Glasgow, Edinburgh, East Kilbride, Livingston, Paisley and Ayrshire in person when that helps.
If your website looks dated, feels slow, or rarely brings in enquiries, that is exactly the problem I set out to fix.
Why a Freelancer, and What It Costs
Agencies have their place, particularly for large projects with big budgets. For most businesses, though, a freelancer offers something an agency struggles to match: one pair of hands and a fairer price.
With an agency, your project often passes through several hands: a salesperson, a project manager, a designer, a developer. Every handover is a chance for something to get lost. With me, there is no chain. What you tell me in the first conversation is what gets built.
I do not carry the overheads of a city-centre office or a payroll, which keeps my prices fair without cutting corners.
Every project is quoted as a fixed price, agreed in writing before anything starts.
I am not VAT registered so there is no VAT to add, meaning the price you see is the price you pay.
I take on a maximum of five active projects at once, so yours always gets proper attention.
