Two Recent Redesigns and What Each One Fixed

Every redesign starts with a site that is holding a business back. Here are two I completed recently, and the problems they solved.

Moonlight Fun Casino Hire - New Website Created by Gilmour Web Design Scotland

Moonlight Fun Casino Hire

The old site used a premium theme from 2016 that the developer hadn’t updated in years. There was no page structure to speak of, just text scrolling over a single background image, with plain icons for decoration. It had been taken offline, and the family struggled to contact the original designer.

I rebuilt it as a 13-page WordPress site with a proper structure, a page for each event type, and 12 blog posts migrated with redirects in place. I also moved the domain and hosting to my own hosting, so the family always know who to call.

The old site was an Elementor template bought from ThemeForest. Five generic pages said little about the practice, and nothing about its planning and building, so it needed work. Again, the owner struggled to reach the designer who built it.

I replaced it with a 14-page custom build with its own icon set, a page for each service, and copy written around the questions clients ask. The site now sits on hosting I manage, with the domain staying with the owner’s own provider.

Three Reasons People Come to Me for a Redesign

The site looks years out of date

Design moves on. A site that looked current in 2018 now tells visitors your business has stood still. Most of the time, the content and structure are worth keeping. The look and mobile experience need work.

The site was built from a template

Bought themes and templates are quick to set up, and it shows. The pages describe a generic business rather than yours. Speed suffers under the weight of features you never use. A redesign replaces the template with pages built around what you actually do.

You cannot get hold of the person who built it

This is more common than you might think. The original designer has moved on, stopped replying, or still controls your hosting. Part of my job is to sort that out. I move your site onto hosting I manage, and your domain either stays where it is or comes with it. Either way, you always know who to call.

Do You Need a Full Redesign or a New Website?

This is the first question I ask anyone who contacts me about a redesign because the honest answer isn’t always the same.

A redesign is usually right if:

  • Your site is on WordPress, and the core structure is sound.
  • You are broadly happy with your branding and do not want to start over.
  • The main issues are visual: dated design, poor mobile experience, or slow loading.
  • Your content is mostly good but needs updating and restructuring.
  • You want to improve your Google rankings without losing the visibility you have built.

A new website may be better if:

  • Your current site is on a platform that no longer serves your needs.
  • The structure is broken and would cost more to fix than to rebuild.
  • Your business has changed a lot, and the site no longer represents what you do.
  • You are starting fresh with a new brand.

If a fresh build makes more sense, that is what my WordPress web design service is for. Not sure which applies? I wrote a short guide on redesign vs rebuild that walks you through the decision. Or drop me a message, and I will review your current site and give you a straight answer. There is no pressure either way.

A redesign service built around what your business actually needs.

What My Website Redesign Service Includes

My redesign service is built around what your business needs, not a template swap or a colour change. Here is what is typically included:

  • A full review of your existing site: what is working, what is holding you back, and where visitors drop off.
  • Updated design that looks current on every device, from desktop to mobile.
  • Improved page structure and navigation, so visitors find what they need quickly.
  • Refreshed copy and content where needed, written to engage visitors and bring in enquiries.
  • On-page SEO improvements, so your redesigned site performs better in Google from day one.
  • Speed and performance work, because a slow site loses visitors and ranks lower.
  • Redirects from every old URL, so you don’t lose anything you’ve built in Google.
  • Hosting moved to my own UK hosting if your current setup is holding you back.
  • A clear handover, so you know how to use and update your site once it is live.

Some clients need a full visual overhaul. Others need structural changes and better copy. I work out what is needed rather than applying the same fix to every site.

Website Redesign Prices

I assess your current site, tell you honestly what it needs, and give you a fixed price before any work begins. The assessment is free. No VAT is added, so the price you see is the price you pay.

Visual Refresh

A restyle and tidy-up of your existing site rather than a rebuild, with an updated layout, fonts, colours and buttons, with light content and SEO improvements.

Best for sites that are basically sound but look dated.

£650

Full Redesign

A complete rebuild of an existing site on a fresh WordPress foundation, with a new design, structure and content. Priced by the final page count.

Best for sites that need a fresh start rather than patching.

From £950

“From” means the starting price for a full redesign. Once I have reviewed your site and we agree on the page count, your quote is fixed in writing and does not change.

How the Website Redesign Process Works

Step 1: Website Review

Before quoting anything, I review your existing site: design, structure, content, mobile experience and SEO. This tells me exactly what needs doing and lets me put together an accurate proposal.

Step 2: Clear Proposal

You receive a written proposal covering what we will change and what we will keep from your existing site. It also covers the timeline and the fixed cost: no hidden extras, no surprises.

Step 3: Redesign and Build

Once you approve the proposal, I get to work. You see the redesign take shape on a private preview link, and nothing launches without your sign-off. Your current site stays live throughout, so there is no downtime.

Step 4: Launch and Handover

When the redesigned site goes live, I make sure the move is smooth: redirects in place, no broken links, no lost rankings. If you need to move hosting, I handle that too. Then I walk you through the site so you can update it yourself.

Frequently Asked Questions About Website Redesign Services

How long does it take to redesign a website?

Most redesigns take two to three weeks once I have your content and images. Larger sites take longer, and I give you a realistic timescale in the proposal. The factors are the same as for a new build, which I cover in my article on typical website build timelines.

What do you need from me to get started?

A link to your current site, and your logo, photos and any text you want to keep. The sooner they arrive, the sooner the site goes live. If writing is not your thing, I can handle the copy as part of the project.

What if I cannot contact the designer who built my site?

This happens more often than people expect, and it is not a problem. As long as you own the domain name, or can prove the business does, I can move the site onto hosting I manage. Your domain can stay with its current provider or move with the site, whichever you prefer. Both of the redesigns above involved exactly that.

Will a redesign affect my Google rankings?

Handled properly, a redesign protects your rankings and often improves them. I keep your structure and redirects in place so you do not lose the visibility you have built. My guide to redesigning a website without losing rankings covers what is involved.

Do you redesign websites you did not originally build?

Yes, most of the sites I redesign were built by someone else. I start with a review to see what is worth keeping and what needs work. You can see the results in my recent work.

Can I update the site myself after the redesign?

Yes. I build on WordPress and show you how to update content, add images and make everyday changes yourself.

Can you redesign just part of my website?

Yes. If only a few pages or sections are letting you down, I can focus there rather than rebuilding the whole site.

What is the difference between a redesign and a refresh?

A refresh restyles and tidies your existing site, updating the look without major structural change. A redesign goes deeper, reworking structure, content and layout for better results.

Do you offer ongoing WordPress support after the redesign?

Yes. I offer monthly WordPress support plans that keep your site updated, secure and backed up, with me on hand if anything goes wrong.
